IBIS Ally Training

The training is a three-hour session in which participants:

  • Learn appropriate and sensitive terminology related to the LGBTQ+ community.
  • Identify the definition of "ally" and develop their own statement of what it means to them.
  • Understand why ally networks exist and why there is a need for an ally network program at the University of Miami.
  • Understand LGBTQ+ student perspectives, experiences, and anecdotes, particularly at the University of Miami and in the Miami community.
  • Gain exposure to understanding of salient, relevant LGBTQ+ student concerns.
  • Develop preliminary, introductory helping skills to assist LGBTQ+ students and community members.

*There will only be one IBIS Ally Network Training in the Spring 2017 semester because the LGBTQ Student Center is launching a campus-wide needs assessment.

If you would like to host an IBIS Ally Training with your department, student organization, or group, please contact our staff at lgbtq@miami.edu. Please note that we require at least ten (10) participants and the training must be held in a three-hour block.
